The fascia is a 3-dimensional web of connective tissue that weaves throughout the body in one continuous unit.
It surrounds, separates, connects and supports every muscle, bone, nerve, blood vessel and organ. The New York University School of Medicine describes it as “a highway of moving fluid, something that ebbs and flows like the ocean.”
Sounds interesting (and important), right? It is...
Restrictions in the fascia are often a precursor to physical, mental and emotional problems. In response to stress, injury or poor posture, the fascia often enters a reactionary, inflammatory stage. This causes the tissue to become rigid and hard, and over time, affect important bodily functions and create symptoms.
Myofascial release (or fascia-based yin yoga) is an efficient way to initiate deep changes in the soft tissue and structural parts of our bodies. By relaxing, stretching, and increasing circulation of the fascia, it is possible to improve the root of the health issue which is causing the symptom.
In this 4-part class series, Kara shares exercises and insights about myofascial release which can relieve pain and symptoms related to:
- Headaches, TMJ Disorder, Vertigo, and Forward Head Posture
- Forward Posture, Shallow Breathing, Tennis Elbow, & Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
- Sciatica, Low Back Pain, & Digestive Issues
- Runners Knee, Shin Splints, & Plantar Fasciitis
As we know, the source of pain is often different than the site of pain. In other words, a headache could be caused by an issue with the pelvis or the feet. For more personalized support, you may book a myofascial treatment with Kara by calling the re:fit front desk at (847) 657-0881.
